Does the auhtor use the word:retarted for irony to show how society looks at disabled people and didnt try to help them during that time period.?
Yes the author uses the word "retarted" in a way as if its a joke. But in reality the word represents the fucked up view society has toward people who aren't disabled by choice but shames them and makes fun of tem calling them "retarted" instead of the pollitcally correct word"menatlly ill". The author uses this irony to help portay one of society problems.
